What kind of information will we need to provide with the application?
A sample application can be found by clicking here. Prospective residents and their families are encouraged to review this application, so they are prepared when the official application is released.
What is the process for applying for an apartment at Independence Landing?
- Fill out the Independence Landing interest survey by clicking here.
- A member of the Independence Landing team will reach out to answer any questions you have about Independence Landing and provide you with information on having an assessment completed.
- Families will be notified by the consultant doing the assessments to schedule the assessment for the prospective IL resident. The goal of the assessment is to determine what skills the prospective resident needs to work on to become eligible for Independence Landing. The assessment fee is $200.
- Families will be sent the applications and will work with the Royal American Management Community Manager throughout the application process.
- Prospective residents and their families will meet with Royal American Management personnel, when they turn in their applications, who will review their application, go over the financial requirements, and help the prospective resident select an apartment.
- Prospective residents whose applications are accepted will be notified of their move-in date.
- Prospective residents who end up on the waiting list, will be notified as soon as openings become available.
What are the eligibility criteria for becoming a resident at Independence Landing?
- Residents must be at least 18 years of age
- Residents must submit to background screening
- Annual combined income, which includes benefits, earned income and investment income cannot exceed $36,120 (New rental rates are published in May, so this figure may be modified).
- Residents must have monthly resources sufficient to pay rent, utilities, food, independent living expenses, etc.
- Residents must have a co-signer on the lease, if it is determined that combined benefits and earned income are less than $1,300 per month
- Residents must have no illegal drug use or criminal behaviors.
Are there any other requirements for living at Independence Landing?
- All residents must have private pay or Medicaid Waiver services in place at all times throughout their residency.
- Participation in supported living assessment to determine level of supports needed.
- Ability to live independently in an apartment setting without significant staff supervision and assistance.
- Awareness of basic safety issues and capable of seeking help.
- Social compatibility – ability to engage in village and community activities with acceptable behavior.
- Motivated to participate in community employment, volunteerism or community programs.
- Confident in making decisions and expressing preferences, including the choice of an apartment-mate.
- Ability to keep living quarters orderly, prepare simple meals and maintain personal grooming.
What services and supports will be available to residents?
Independence Landing has contracted with Specialized Supports to provide supported living coaching and other services and supports to residents. Specialized Supports will provide services to all residents paying privately. Individuals who are receiving Medicaid Waiver funded services can select Specialized Supports or another provider of their choice.
Independence Landing will also offer an array of auxiliary activities (recreational onsite and offsite activities and events) which are staff directed. These enriched activities will provide residents with many opportunities for social engagement, community participation and exploration, recreational and leisure pursuits and much more. Participation in Auxiliary Activities will also make available transportation to shopping, medical and other community events.
Auxiliary Activities will be included for all private paying residents. Individuals receiving services through Medicaid-Waiver will be encouraged to purchase monthly Auxiliary Activities to benefit from the Independence Landing lifestyle.
What are the costs associated with living at Independence Landing for Medicaid Waiver clients?
All residents must pay rent, electricity, and cable/internet/cell phone. They are also responsible for food they are going to prepare for themselves and any personal items or activities they. Residents who are on the Medicaid Waiver may also purchase auxiliary services from Independence Landing for $300 a month. The auxiliary service fee includes all IL sponsored recreation/community activities and includes transportation for these events.
Rent – approximately monthly rent is $915 for a one-bedroom apartment and $1,103 for a two-bedroom.
Electricity – residents receive credit toward their electric bill each month of approximately $75-$95 depending on the unit. Costs over this amount will be paid by the resident.
Cable/internet/Cell – approximately $125 a month
Personal Food – approximately $300 a month
Personal Spending – approximately $200 a month
Auxiliary Activities – $300 a month
